New wheels roll well
It's time for a new travel companion. But which one suits me best and what did I finally decide on.
It's time for a new travel companion. But which one suits me best and what did I finally decide on.
Again I choose the Boogietrips Bodyboard Holidays on the Azores to enjoy a little bit of summer in the middle of the grey and cold transition between autumn and winter at home. To postpone the end of summer for a little bit. And what kind of a sunny trip it was.
... and that is mobile and offers rather limited space. But bed, kitchen and toilet are always with me and I can move upright.
Statistics time. How long was I on the road and how many kilometers are now on the clock? What costs have accrued on average and what have I not counted.
Autumn and winter are just around the corner, time to expand the summer a little bit more and to round off my long timeout with surfing at the Azores.
Autumn. I am back from France and traveling in the footsteps of the k.u.k. past. And will Sisi's ghost appear?
Summer and time off are coming to an end. Once again, I start the engine to get to know a new piece of France for a few days.
It's time for the hustle and bustle of the city. From nature back to the hectic pace of life. After four months of quiet life on the beach and in the countryside, it's time to head to Paris for a few days.
(4363 – 6633 km)
The green centre of Portugal is not so green anymore and how far south will I go, because it's time to start thinking about the return journey.
(3798 – 4362 km)
The clock is set back an hour and not only beaches are waiting for me. A national park with its mountains puts my campervan to the test.
(2861 – 3797 km)
The route continues along the Spanish coast. The blue sea to the right and the green mountains to the left. Hardly any traffic.
(2441 – 2860 km)
Once again the landscape changes. The Pyrenees mountains appear on the horizon as the sandy beach and dunes slowly disappear. The architecture differs from the Cote d'Argent. Red and green are the dominant colours. The Basque Country.
(2131 – 2440 km)
As soon as I arrive on the ferry, it's clear that France is different from here on. The country is flat, I drive dead straight through pine forests. The next time surfing should be in focus and lead me along the Silver Coast to the Basque Country. 230 km of almost continuous sandy beach is to explore.
(1252 – 2130 km)
The West is explored, all works in the base camp are done. Time to start going southwards onto the long run of my road trip.
(0 – 1251 km)
Everything is packed, the car is filled up, I turn the ignition key and the trip starts. The known disappears behind the last turn, the new awaits after the next bend.
My basecamp for the road trip is located in the Bretagne, nearby Dinan. Here starts my road trip with the camping car, but first some last preparations have to be finished.
Actually I had a different intention. First destination on my time-out trip was Portugal. I had planned to take a step back from the daily grind and to improve my surfing in a technical and physical way for my Atlantic road trip. But the weather also exists.
The desk ist cleared, I said goodbye to the colleagues and my laptop and mobile phone are locked away. And now?
Nic from Boogietrips offers besides the Algarve adventure also a surf trip to the Azores. I booked the trip this year for the first week of November. Michel, who was also with us on the Algarve tour, was also at the party and brought along five of his colleagues.
For a couple of years now I’ve been visiting Sintra in Portugal on a regular basis to bodyboard. I stay with the surf school Sintrasurf and surf the Lisbon/Sintra area with bodyboard coach Nicolas Rosner.
The feeling of needing a timeout doesn’t fade away, the idea still occupies my mind. Time to approach a systematical analysis and get to the core.
… to put a long-term idea into life.
